Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Mekele / Semera → Lake Afrera

Enter the Depression from your chosen city. First stop: Lake Afrera — a warm saline lake with flamingos and effortless floating. Camp at the lakeshore. Extraordinary sunset over the salt flats.

Day 2: Camel Caravans → Hamed Ela

Morning at the salt mining area — watch the caravans load and depart. The scene is ancient and completely real. Arrive Hamed Ela. Brine pool float at sunset.

Day 3: Dallol, Gaet’ale Pond & Lake Asale

Sunrise at Dallol’s hydrothermal field. Visit Gaet’ale Pond — the saltiest water on Earth. Afternoon: Lake Asale salt walk and brine swim.

Day 4: Erta Ale Overnight → Return

Afternoon convoy to Erta Ale. Dusk summit trek. Lava lake overnight at the crater rim. Dawn descent. Long convoy back to Mekele.
